Edition comparison

MW4 Vault Edition vs Standard Edition

Standard includes the base game. Vault adds two operator packs, five signature weapons, one season of BlackCell and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. The separate Vault Upgrade requires an eligible base-game purchase; preorder rewards have their own conditions.

Standard vs Vault: Side-by-Side

The MW4 Vault Edition is the base game bundled with additional content. Standard is the base game itself. Decide first whether you want those particular extras, then compare the current Steam prices for the two complete editions. A separate Vault Upgrade serves existing eligible owners and should not be mistaken for a discounted full game.

The official edition guide describes the bundle and upgrade route. It also covers preorder offers, so read the label and conditions of each benefit rather than treating every item in the article as a current purchase bonus.

What the Vault Edition Adds

There are two operator packs, not four packs. Hostile Alliance includes Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix. Special Forces is a separate pack with four country-themed operators representing the United Kingdom, Germany, France and South Korea, with the corresponding local-language voice sets. The pack description is not an additional Chinese voice-pack offer.

Vault also includes a Signature Weapon Collection with five weapons. This is a content entitlement; we have not tested it as evidence of a competitive advantage. Choose it because you want the advertised collection, rather than assuming that a higher edition price guarantees better results in matches.

BlackCell is limited to one season. Its described content includes the Battle Pass, 20 Tier Skips and 1,100 COD Points, subject to the official availability and redemption terms. The applicable season depends on when the owner plays. Before paying for that benefit, check which season you would receive; it is not a subscription covering every future season.

The DMZ Deployment Bonus is another listed extra. Its name alone does not establish a cash value, unlimited deployments or a particular advantage. Read the current content description if that bonus is the reason you are considering Vault. Steam’s current product and edition listing.

How the Vault Upgrade Works

An upgrade changes the content entitlement of an eligible base-game owner. It does not supply a standalone game to someone starting from nothing. The official guide describes upgrading on the same platform as the original digital purchase; Steam buyers should check the Steam or in-game upgrade item for the current requirements.

Use this order before buying:

  1. Confirm which storefront owns your MW4 base game. A Steam library entry and a purchase on another PC storefront are different things to check.
  2. Open the official Steam product listing using the account that owns the base game.
  3. Read the upgrade item’s requirements and included contents. Check for a base-game requirement before comparing its price with the full Vault Edition.
  4. Compare the upgrade’s current cost with the extras you want. Keep time-limited or already-expired offers out of that calculation.

If you have not bought the game, compare Standard with the complete Vault Edition directly. If you are unsure which item you own, resolve that first rather than adding a second full game or an incompatible upgrade to the cart.

Which Edition Fits Your Priorities?

Choose Standard when your main goal is the base game. It avoids paying in advance for extras you may not use. You should still check the same PC requirements, SSD-space requirement and online account conditions before purchasing.

Consider Vault when you want the named extras. Look at the operator designs and weapon collection, then check whether the included BlackCell season fits your plans. A bundle can be a sensible choice for one player and unnecessary for another without either being the universally best edition.

Consider the upgrade when you already have an eligible Steam copy. Confirm its requirements and current price in the same account. Do not use the upgrade’s headline price as the full cost of starting MW4.

Keep Preorder Benefits Separate

Early beta access and launch-period promotions are historical offers with their own deadlines and eligibility. An old article still being readable does not renew them. A reward may also require play in another game, a qualifying account or a separate redemption action. Check those conditions on the current official listing before counting it in your purchase decision.

Once you know which bundle you want, check its price on Steam and review the exact cart item. Our installation guide covers the next practical step: making room on the right SSD before downloading.

QUICK ANSWERS

Compare editions: common questions

Does Standard include the base game?+

Yes. Standard is the base-game edition. Vault bundles that game with the listed additional content; it is not a replacement for checking PC and online-play requirements.

How many seasons of BlackCell are included with Vault?+

The official edition description specifies one season, not every season. The applicable season and redemption conditions depend on the official terms and when you play.

Can I buy the Vault Upgrade without owning MW4?+

The upgrade is additional content for an eligible base-game owner. For a first purchase, choose a complete Standard or Vault edition and check the Steam item requirements.

Does the Special Forces pack include Chinese voice packs?+

The official description associates the four country-themed operators with their local languages: the United Kingdom, Germany, France and South Korea. It does not describe a Chinese voice pack as part of that pack.
